MONA LISA

During the period when I was working as an assistant within the group Gelitin I made images of plasticine and created portraits of Mona Lisa in a particular style. In order to foster the expression of my artistic freedom my body became a model for the portrayal of Mona Lisa. Secretly I thereby put my signature under that piece of art and found myself reflected within it. I create a world of my own, in which I could exist as an artist within the group, albeit my artworks reappeared at the market under other artists’ names.
Upon the completion of my project I finally made an “original copy of the copy of the original” and a Mona Lisa was brought into being by me as an independent artist. That Mona Lisa is much more a self-portrait and is signed by me. The paradox raises questions concerning the original artwork, the value of a single artwork and the value of an artist’s name and his identity…
